New Delhi, May 30, 2025Embraer, Brazil’s aerospace and defense giant, has announced the creation of a wholly owned subsidiary in India, with its corporate headquarters located in AeroCity, New Delhi.

This strategic move reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to the Indian market, targeting opportunities in the defense, commercial aviation, business aviation, services, and urban air mobility sectors.

The new subsidiary symbolizes Embraer’s expansion in India and aims to strengthen its presence in the country’s emerging aerospace and defense industry segments. As part of this initiative, the company is increasing its local workforce, including corporate roles and specialized teams in procurement, supply chain, and engineering.

“India is a key market for Embraer, and this expansion demonstrates our unwavering commitment to the country,” said Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer. “We are excited to deepen our collaboration with the Indian aerospace and defense industry, leveraging our expertise and technology to support the country’s growth and Make in India efforts.”

Currently, about 50 Embraer aircraft, covering 11 different types, operate in the country across commercial, defense, and executive aviation— all supported by the company’s maintenance and service network in India.

Embraer’s expansion also strengthens strategic ties between Brazil and India, promoting mutual growth. The company’s participation in the upcoming IATA 2025 Annual General Meeting in New Delhi reaffirms the Brazilian manufacturer’s focus on the Indian market and its intention to build closer ties with key aviation stakeholders.

The initiative follows other recent strategic moves in the country, including the Memorandum of Understanding signed in February 2024 between Embraer Defense & Security and Mahindra Defence Systems. The partnership aims to evaluate joint participation in the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program with the C-390 Millennium tactical airlifter.

The C-390 is a next-generation multi-mission aircraft designed to meet 21st-century operational demands. It stands out for flying faster (470 knots), farther, and with a larger payload (26 tons) than other medium-sized military cargo aircraft. The aircraft is already in full operational service and is capable of missions including troop and cargo transport and airdrop, medical evacuation, search and rescue, humanitarian missions, firefighting, and aerial refueling.

In commercial aviation, Embraer’s E-Jets family, made up of small regional narrowbody aircraft, offers significant advantages for India’s air connectivity. These aircraft have the potential to serve currently untapped markets in medium and small cities, supporting India’s goal of becoming a global aviation hub.

This impact is already visible with Star Air, an Indian regional airline that operates exclusively Embraer E175 and ERJ145 jets. With greater range than turboprops and smaller capacity than 180-seat aircraft, the E-Jets are helping to optimize regional flight offerings on low-demand routes.

Among Indian Embraer aircraft operators are the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Border Security Force (BSF), which use Legacy 600 jets for VIP and government transport. The AEW&C aircraft ‘Netra’, based on the ERJ145 platform, is operated by the IAF for airborne early warning and control missions.
